Giddings and Lewis 5" 350T Horizontal Boring Mill CNC retrofit upgrade
This G&L 5" 350T boring mill belongs to KD Machine in New Castle, PA. The shop purchased it used for $125,000 in 2013 and had it retrofitted by Bill Myers of CNC Services East, Monaca, PA, who installed a new Centroid M400 CNC control along with new axis servo motors. The 350T G&L is the newest addition to the Horizontal line up at KD Machine. This machine is one of five horizontals equipped with Centroid M400 CNC controls. The first one is about 6 years old. Kenny says he keeps coming back to Centroid since the control makes it easy to get the work thru the shop and out the door.
KD Machine specializes in large parts and serves the railroad and oil industries.

Floor Type G&L CNC Retrofit with Centroid M400 CNC control
7" G&L Floor type Horizontal Milling machine. 30 ft. X travel and 10 ft. Y travel. Previously retrofitted with a Allen Bradley control, this machine was upgraded to a Centroid M400 CNC control to fix reliability problems with the old system. This machine is located in Astoria, OR, owned by A.F Dick Manufacturing and was retrofitted by Marc Leonard, CNC Services Northwest and Jerry Kohler of Advanced Machinery Resources.
G&L 5" Horizontal Table Mill CNC Upgrade. 12 ft. (X) by 54" (Y) Travel
Also located at A.F. Dick Manufacturing this 5" Giddings and Lewis Table Mill has 12 feet of X travel and 54" of Y travel. This machine has been running with the Centroid M400 since 2010 and was upgraded to solve reliability problems with the old control system and to make programming easier. New AC Brushless servo motors were installed on all axes during the Centroid CNC installation.
