TB015 Rev1 Scandisk and Defrag Procedures
Overview
Scandisk
is a utility program that can scan either a hard drive or a floppy disk for bad or corrupted files
Although it doesn't fix every problem it is a simple procedure that should be considered to help diagnose and
correct drive or file management errors
Steps
1 Go to the DOS prompt the C > prompt from the main screen of CNC7 Software Press the Ctrl+Alt+X
all
three keys at the same time
2 Run "Scandisk" and DOS will perform a routine check of your hard drive Type the bold faced line below
pressing the ENTER
key at the end of the line
C \CNC7> scandisk /autofix/nosave/surface
The scan disk program will begin running If there are any errors you will be notified of what was found to be
wrong Write down any messages that appear on the screen
NOTE
Some computers may not have the scandisk program In this case try executing the following
command if the error message "bad command or filename" appears when trying to execute the scandisk
program
C \CNC7> chkdsk /f
Defrag
is a DOS based utility program which reorganizes fragmented files on the drive If you often edit many
jobs on the control you may want to run Defrag occasionally to optimize the use and speed of your hard drive
3 Run "Defrag" to organize the hard drive Use the line below
C \CNC7> defrag c /b/u
4 Reboot the control by shutting down the power and then turning the power back on after 15 seconds
